Books I Loved in 2018

Good morning! I wanted to occassionally jump on here and share the books I’ve been loving. I realize we are well into 2019, but I nonetheless wanted to share my favorites from last year. Near the end of 2018, I started reading like crazy. I am an avid reader, but due to work and life, I stopped reading for a few years! I am back into it again, thankfully. I read so many great books that now I can’t stop! If you want me to continue sharing the book reviews or want to give me some recommendations, let me know in the comments below!

BIG LITTLE LIES by Liane Moriarty

MY FAV! I could not put this book down. There is murder-mystery, love triangles, and tons of comedy all wrapped in one. It sucked me right into the lives of all the women it follows along the story. The book is set in Australia, and centers around 3 women who each have children that go to the same school. Each has their own secret, but by the end of the book, the secrets unravel in one cataclysmic event. Madeline is my favorite character~ she says exactly what she wants to! The ending is absolutely insane, and my jaw literally fell open. I definitely stayed up late through the night to finish this one. Oh, AND Reese Witherspoon made the book into a tv series if that isn’t even more incentive to read the book!

THE POWER by Naomi Alderman

A friend loaned me this book after finishing it in a book club, and she highly recommended it. I took it with me to Israel, and a woman behind me at the TSA check saw it and told me she loved it too. So, I had two different people tell me I had to read it! To be honest, the first portion of the book took a minute to get into. Once I got half way through, though, I was hooked and couldn’t wait to see how things panned out for each of the main characters. Each chapter is told by a different character’s point of view. The main point of the story that I took away was: if you had the most power in the world, what would you do with it? Each character has deep wounds, and their newfound power persuades them to take the side of evil or good. This read is not for the faint of heart, and some scenes are intense, so beware before you start reading! This story really made me think, and I loved discussing it with my friend afterwards!

BRAIN ON FIRE: MY MONTH OF MADNESS by Susannah Cahalan

I recommend every 20 something to read this one. Susannah details an intense month of schitzofrenic- like behavior that no doctor could figure out. What really happened to her brain is incredible. If she didn’t have parents that fought her doctors at every turn, she would be in a psych ward this very minute! Super scary, but very worth the read.

HOW NOT TO DIE: DISCOVER THE FOODS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO PREVENT AND REVERSE DISEASES by Michael Greger M.D.

Phew that was a mouthful! I am not going to push my vegetarian lifestyle on anyone, and neither is the doctor of this book, but his results will wow you! Dr. Greger talks about how eating a mostly plant based diet has reversed his patient’s otherwise incurrible diseases. By adding in simple spices and other ingredients into your food, you can drastically prevent serious complications later in life. I grabbed his cookbook just the other day and can’t wait to start trying out the recipes! For those of you interested in health & wellness, or even a new kind of lifestyle diet, this book is for you.
